How fast should a launch video be cut?
By Yannis Coulibaly · November 6, 2026 · Measured on 360 launch videos
There is no target. Across 344 tech launch videos with detected cuts, the median is about 16 cuts a minute and half sit between 8 and 28. Short films cut faster: about 32 a minute under 30 seconds, about 11 over two minutes.
The median tech launch video has about 16 detected cuts a minute, one every four seconds. Half of the films sit between 8 and 28. The spread is the real finding: some films have about 2 cuts a minute, others more than 60, so a number alone will not tell you how to cut yours.
Shorter films cut faster
Under 30 seconds, the median is about 32 cuts a minute. From 30 seconds to two minutes it is about 16. Over two minutes it falls to about 11.
A cut and a scene boundary describe different things
A hard cut is an abrupt edit between shots. A scene boundary marks a change in the idea being presented. Several shots can belong to one scene, and a new idea can arrive through continuous animation with no cut at all.
How far to trust these numbers
The cuts are counted by software, so every figure here is an estimate. On 6 November 2026 we ran a second detector on all 360 films and checked 140 random moments on the images. About 90% of detected cuts are real, and about 94% of real cuts are found. That check was made by an AI, not a person. Fades, wipes and changes inside part of the screen do not count as cuts. The averages hold up better than any single film: on 99 films the two detectors differ too much for one number, and those pages show a range.
Use the examples as viewing references
The films below sit near the two ends of the range, and both detectors roughly agree on them. Watch what each one does between its cuts. They show what is possible, not what you should aim for.

How this was measured
Figures come from 360 tech launch videos in the Launchscene library, as of November 6, 2026, each counted once. Cuts and voice are measured from the file. Scene roles are annotated by AI and only part of them are checked by a person, so treat small differences with care. The library is a selection of launches, not a random sample. Current figures are on the benchmarks page.
